How to solve Zebra and logic-grid puzzles
A Zebra puzzle is a common name for this family of relational logic-grid puzzles, where each item matches exactly one item in every other category.
1. Mark direct exclusions
If a clue says a person was not in a place or did not carry an object, mark that cell with an X immediately.
2. Confirm direct matches
A confirmed match removes every other option in the same row and column. ClueAxis marks those forced exclusions automatically.
3. Connect the matrices
If Ada was in the archive and the archive held the brass key, Ada carried the brass key. Use two known links to complete the third relationship.
4. Revisit nearly complete rows
When three cells in a row are excluded, the fourth is forced. Confirm it, then look for the new exclusions it creates elsewhere.
5. Check without guessing
A fair grid has one solution. If a branch creates two matches for one person, place, or object, undo the last premise and return to the exact clues.
